      The Job

      Warner Bros. Games (WBG) is looking for a Director of Engineer, Central Technology with proven experience to lead the Central Game Technology team. As a Director of Engineering, Central Technology, you will build up and manage the Central Game Technology team, staffing it with top-level systems/engine, rendering, animation, audio and other specialties of engineers, and you will be reporting directly to the VP of Game Technology. As a part of your duties, you will also regularly travel to meet with key stakeholders to help establish and to promote a culture of technology sharing across all WB Games studios worldwide.

      The role of the Central Game Technologies team is to develop and maintain a central game engine and its supporting game development technology that can be shared and leveraged across multiple WB Games studios. The strategic goal of the team will be to work with all the studios to identify and collect existing sharable technology, and to complement it with development of new technology necessary to have a complete, versatile and performant central game engine for use in all future projects. The primary focus of the team will be on the technology for game consoles, PC and cross-platform mobile titles, with special emphasis put on the development of technology for the future generations of the game consoles and game streaming platforms. The team will also help identify the pain points in the development of technology for the current products, and provide guidance in mitigating these in short and long term, incorporating the findings, new technology and know-how into the central game technology to be shared with all WB Games studios.

      Each of the WB Games studios brings unique technical advantages to the table. Rocksteady built Arkham free-flow combat, Monolith patented the Nemesis System, Avalanche built a systemic RPG system for Hogwarts Legacy. We are looking for someone to take these strategic systems and join them together with Unreal Engine 5 to build a framework for the next generation of DC universe games, for Harry Potter universe games, for LEGO and Mortal Kombat games.

      This technical role in the Warner Bros. Central Game Technologies team offers a recognized expert the opportunity to participate in the envisioning, designing and building of a variety of enterprise-level game development application services and solutions in support of our video games and central services teams.

      You will have the chance to work with game teams across the entire organization, as well as WB central teams. You should have a strong focus on innovation and leverage a deep technical background and experience. You will contribute to the roadmap, architecture and technical and business delivery of various software applications. Strong soft skills are required to collaborate with individual game teams, in order to gain adoption and enhance these solutions

      The Daily

      • Provides game development technology support for multiple WB Games studios across an entire project lifecycle, which includes gathering requirements from key technical leaders, creating a vision and strategy, presenting to leadership, developing the product roadmap, ensuring projects are on track and completed on time, managing communication with all stakeholders, and collaborating with the development team

      • Provides guidance and participates in all aspects of the proposed service end-to-end, including design, implementation, support and developer interaction

      • Identifies any pain points and develops solutions as part of the game development application services portfolio that are modular, portable, testable and reliable

      • Drives usage of coding best practices and standards; Participates in code reviews and provides constructive feedback on design and implementation to help others improve coding skills

      • Oversees support and administrative actions related to the installation and maintenance of production systems, while also engineering solutions that require minimal support

      • Leverages the cloud and AI/ML technologies where appropriate, utilizing automation, cloud computing and configuration as code

      • Manager, coach and lead the Central Game Technology team and constantly evolve the team’s roles and capabilities to ensure that the company’s goals are met

      The Essentials

      • 12+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 2 years in a technical leadership role.

      • 10+ years of experience in AAA game development using C++ as the primary programming language.

      • 7+ years of source control management experience including advanced concepts like branching strategies and developer workflows

      • 7+ years of experience with automated build pipelines, continuous integration, and continuous deployment

      • Excellent knowledge of data structures and of algorithm complexity analysis

      • Excellent knowledge of design patterns

      • Excellent verbal and written communication, and customer service skills

      • Excellent understanding of various project management models (specifically Agile)

      • Experience with Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning is an asset

      In compliance with local law, we are disclosing the compensation, or a range thereof, for roles in locations where legally required. $168,000.00 - $312,000.00 salary per year. Other rewards may include annual bonuses, short- and long-term incentives, and program-specific awards. In addition, Warner Bros.
